 Edible Flowers

Flowers play a very vital role in this planet. Aside from the fact that they are in demand during special and memorable occasions, it is a great ingredient in making perfumes and other cosmetic products; they are also useful in the kitchen. Furthermore, they are also a great help in curing different kinds of illnesses.

During the renaissance period, a chef or cook doesn’t use flowers for ornamental purposes. According to history, peony roots are served exclusively as among the king’s meals. In fact, dianthus and carnations are two of the most known evidences that there are some mouth-watering and stomach-friendly flowers. Additionally, there have been books written about them. Take for instance a type of sweet omelet called the tansie; it can be turned into purple using the violet flower. If you want it to have a yellow colored appearance, you can use the marigolds and the cowslips for it.

There are some other flowers that are also used to treat ailments, like the oregano. It is a good cure for a rumbling stomach. Daisies are also known to cure insanity. It’s steeped in wine with southern wood and sage. Also, in medieval times, exhausted soldiers used to bathe in aromatic thyme to cure their hangovers and restore their vigor and bravery.

Human history has been accompanied with romantic floral stories as well. Flowers add more charm, better health, and even an unusual dimension to your tables. In fact, there was a Primrose day during the reign of her majesty, Queen Victoria. There was also a fanciful recipe for the fairy cups. This recipe called for pounded flowers and ladyfingers.  In addition to that, it also required three pints of cream and a little rose water with sixteen eggs; and baked sugar was then buttered on top of it.

There are some edible petals that are very easy to be cultured at home. In fact, they are available at a farmer’s market and in department stores. Floral flavors range from snappy to sweet. Among the edible flowers are the anise hyssop, mustard, dandelion and violets.  Anise hyssop is a finger-sized mauve flower that adds an undertone of anise to your green leaf and fruit salads. Mustard, as the name implies, is pungent and yellow in color. It is one of the gourmet kitchen’s favorites. Dandelion is commonly used to add more taste and attraction to your salads. You can also cook them with their leaves. The flowers and leaves of the violets are both edible. They are also good for bridal cakes with its candied flowers that are brushed with egg whites.
